Camagüey, Cuba

A week to exalt culture in Camaguey

Shows, fairs, presentations of artistic groups, exhibitions, historiography events, symposia and activities for all age groups fill these days squares, galleries, theaters and public spaces in Camagüey, to celebrate the 506 anniversary of the once village of Santa María del Puerto del Principe.

Traditional and proud of its heritage, this legendary city provides, as always, its visitors with its tinajones, its cobblestones and churches, the old alleys and other charms that make it unique in Cuba through the centuries.

The Culture Week in this city is distinguished, among other actions, with the Flag Ceremony and the traditional Diana Mambisa, the Popular Art Fair and the XIV International Symposium Challenges in the Management of Cities, sponsored by the Office of the Historian of the City.

On February 2, according to oral tradition, the date established as the foundation was the town of Santa María del Puerto Príncipe, in 1514. (Maykel Torres la Rosa / Radio Cadena Agramonte.) (Photos: Humberto Cid González / Radio Agramonte chain.)
