Electric bills will rise 10 percent in France

Paris, Jul 18.- The French government announced today an immediate increase of 10 percent in the price of electricity, once the current tariff shield has been abolished, and which will mean an average increase of 160 euros per year for families.

The new tariffs will enter into force on August 1, and as confirmed by the Ministries of the Economy and Energy Transition, the rise will first affect all French households, but also small businesses (small businesses, artisans), "connected to a meter with a capacity of up to 36 kVA”, they specified.

In any case, this increase will only be the first step, since according to the calculations of the Energy Regulation Commission, the theoretical increase in electricity rates up to now frozen by the government is 74.5 percent, so the The government "will continue to guarantee consumer protection" while it tries to reach an agreement with the electricity companies on this issue.

The Government hopes to carry out "an in-depth debate" with the interested parties to gather opinions on the next price increases, and gradually reduce the state contributions that alleviate the energy bill of families.

According to official data, between 2021 and 2023 the French State will have allocated some 110 billion euros to contain increases in gas and electricity in homes, local entities and companies. (Text and photo: PL)
