The life of Ana Elvira Ávila Arias could not be counted without mentioning the Radio, since almost her entire existence has been spent as musicalizer of the dramatic group Nino Moncada, from Radio Cadena Agramonte in Camagüey.

“I was 16 years old when I arrived at the station in 1972 and because I was a minor I even had to wait until the beginning of the following year to make the employment contract, and I am already 68”, she comments.

For a brief period she worked first in the discotheque of the radial plant; she later opted for the position of musicalizer, and after obtaining the highest score in the exam for it, she became part of the aforementioned dramatic group.

With her, at that time there were three women in Cuba who were dedicated to musicalization, which is why she contributed to breaking stereotypes in the sector, and she did so much that today she is an Artist of Merit on Cuban Radio and a Teacher of Radialists.

Radio musicalization, an exciting specialty

In consideration of the outstanding musicalizer of radio programs in Camagüey, Ana Elvira Ávila, if something is decisive to practice the specialty it is general culture.

She confesses that in due time she always reads the script and the synopsis of each character to shape the sound design, since setting a city from the 20s of the last century is not the same as a current one, or reflecting a negative character, than a positive one, express.

These abilities have been demonstrated in children’s programs, as well as in novels or historical spaces, and certainly his credit means a seal of quality.

Currently, she highlights the comfort represented by the digitalization of radio production, although she affirms that the transition from magnetic tapes to computers was not easy, but she, persevering as she is, managed to adapt and acquire extensive skills.

The Radio: life and home

Camagüey’s Ana Elvira Ávila has had many satisfactions on the radio, and she fondly remembers, for example, the novel Blood and Silver written by José Rodríguez Lastre (Nikitín), which earned this outstanding musician a national award.

She highlights how much he enjoys working on historical shows and acknowledges that they are sometimes difficult, but he has always managed to get the setting and music just right.

Eight years ago, this consecrated professional opted for retirement, but the radio passion was stronger and there she is, again in the dramatic group Nino Moncada, from the Camagüey headquarters, contributing his talent and supporting improvement actions to ensure the relief.

For this reason, when Ana Elvira Ávila Arias is asked what Radio means, she immediately says that it is life itself, and Cadena Agramonte, without hesitation, her beloved home.
