Havana, Nov 4.- Today, Family Medicine is the basis of the public health system in Cuba, stated in this capital the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine Dania Llanes.
In health matters, this field generates many experiences, and these change over time, declared Llanes in the context of the III National Congress of Family Medicine that culminated in the capital's Convention Center.
Many of the programs established to guarantee health on the Caribbean island are based on this basis, since this modality is the one that patients turn to first.
We are the first to receive them, to give them the questionnaire and to guide them with the complementary analyses, explained the doctor with 25 years of work in this area.
Then, taking into account the results of the initial protocol, we make the diagnosis and we can heal them with the range of knowledge we have, but also refer them to the most appropriate specialty to care for their ailment.
The most important thing in this field is preventive and promotional work, stated the doctor.
Family Medicine also contributed to the fight against COVID-19 in Cuba and to the clinical trials of vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, highlighted Llanes, who works at the Mártires del Corynthia University Polyclinic. (Text and photo: PL)
