Borrell denounces at the UN the use of hunger as a weapon of war in Gaza

United Nations, March 13.- The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, denounced the use of hunger as a weapon of war in Gaza by insisting on the need for more humanitarian assistance for trapped civilians.

The high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy assured that the humanitarian crisis in the enclave is not a natural disaster, it is not a flood, it is not an earthquake: it is caused by man, although he limited himself to mentioning Israel in his comments.

In a statement to the press, the representative supported a two-state solution after decades of conflict and assured that airdrops of assistance are a method in use due to the lack of alternatives for their entry.

Borrell traveled to New York to participate in a Security Council meeting dedicated to cooperation between the United Nations and the European Union where, among other topics, he also addressed the conflict in Ukraine.

The person in charge of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the bloc considered the role of the UN crucial, an organization that he described as an unsinkable compass for humanity in the face of global challenges.

At the same time, he insisted on the need to reform the Security Council and international financial institutions to better reflect present realities.

The future will come anyway, so let's try to make it less gloomy than our gloomy present, he said when speaking before the highest body dedicated to preserving the peace of the planet.

Among other issues, the head of European diplomacy expressed concern about the crises in Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Haiti and the Sahel region. (Text and photo: PL)
