Tehran, March 13.- The president of Iran, MasoudPezeshkian, stated today that his country did not start the ongoing war and also does not want it to continue.
According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, the statements were made during a telephone conversation between the Iranian president and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
Pezeshkian pointed out that Iran acted "within the framework of its legitimate right to self-defense" by attacking US bases in the region from where, he claimed, the attacks against its territory originated.
The president stressed that Tehran does not seek to generate insecurity in the Middle East and advocated for a more active role for the BRICS group in preserving regional peace, stability, and security.
For his part, Modi expressed in a message posted on the X platform his concern over the escalation of the conflict, as well as civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.
The head of the Indian government highlighted that the continuous flow of goods and energy is a priority for his country and urged resolving the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy.
Since February 28, Israel and the United States have been carrying out attacks against Iran, which have caused the deaths of hundreds of people.
In response, Tehran launched missiles and drones towards Israeli territory, and against US bases and interests in several Arab countries, actions that in some cases caused casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, facts condemned by the affected states. (Text and photo: PL)
