Elia Rosa: my aspiration was to be like a mother (+ Photos)

Camagüey, March 13.- Teaching was always her passion, Elia Rosa says that since she was little she longed to be a teacher just like her mother, for her dolls never occupied a place as special in her heart as that small blackboard with which every afternoon He played at giving classes to his grandparents, neighbors or whoever was in her house.

Over the years that aspiration changed and, although life hindered her path, she is currently in the fourth year of his degree in Journalism, a goal that he eagerly set for himself since she was a teenager.

Due to fate, I did not take the journalism aptitude tests in my twelfth grade, so I opted for industrial design, a career that seemed quite attractive to me and was my first choice, she added.

In Havana I never felt comfortable, I realized that reality did not combine with what I truly wanted, so I decided to finish the first year and ask for a registration license to take the Journalism aptitude tests here in Camagüey, I passed them and I started in what I decided would be the profession of my life, she highlighted.

Elia, like many students in Cuba, began her studies behind a screen. She had to meet her new classmates through a WhatsApp group because COVID-19 did not allow her first meeting to be the one in which they tell you to say your name out loud, although her first day after pandemic, she says she felt as if she had always walked through the halls of the University of Camagüey.

Upon entering the University of Camagüey I felt very welcomed, in fact, I began to actively participate in activities of the University Student Federation that were being carried out at that time, I am referring to the digitalization of the Abdala vaccination campaign and the investigation, I also assumed tasks within this organization as a communicator, I really fell in love with my university and its people, she pointed out.

For someone who is an archaeologist of dreams, dusting off hers was never a problem, and this young woman passionate about life never stopped searching in each fossil for traits similar to her mother, who was the teacher she always wanted to be.

In my second year I decided to be part of the Leonel Relys contingent, a project of the Federation of University Students and the Vice President of Training of the university to collaborate with the task Educating for Love, which consisted of teaching classes in pre-university institutes, basic secondary schools and even polytechnics. I am currently hired at the IPVCE Máximo Gómez Báez as a Spanish literature teacher and it has been one of the best experiences of my life as a university student, because I have been able to carry out those two professions that, since I was a child, were my desires, she expressed.

Every day presents her with a new challenge, since studying and working is usually complicated, although she herself says that there is nothing more rewarding than feeling useful and fighting for what you want.

So far I am happy with everything I have achieved as a journalism student, as a teacher and as a student leader, and even with myself, especially because of the desire to always feel useful, that need to put myself in the place of other people, I am missing do a lot, and I know that my life has just begun, but it is only clear to me that my conviction will always be to put myself in the place of others without ever failing to achieve my personal fulfillment, because there is no better quality than being the reflection of the greatness that they hide. our souls, she argued.

The face of this empathetic woman reveals the longing for a goal that, just around the corner, turns into a Bachelor's degree. Life showed Elia Rosa that beyond her reality, there was a purpose rooted in the art of teach and communicate. (Text and photos: Alexis Peña Hernández/Radio Cadena Agramonte)
