Venezuela aspires to join the BRICS at the 2024 summit

Caracas, March 26.- The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, expressed his hope that his country will join the BRICS group as a full member at the group's next summit. This was stated in an interview during the Venezuela Decide 2024 program on Telesur.

“We have great hope that this year 2024, when the BRICS summit takes place [...], Venezuela will be incorporated as a full member, we will go from being partners that we are now,” said the president.

“We have to be at the forefront of the new world, the multipolar world, the alternative world. And guarantee from that world the greatest sum of benefits for our economy, for our people, and connect us with science, knowledge, and the most advanced technology in the world,” he added.

This year started with big changes for the BRICS. Since the January1st., Moscow assumed the rotating presidency of the group, initially made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and which now has new members: Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the expansion of the forum and the desire of a growing number of states to join the BRICS demonstrate the growing authority of the association, as well as its key role in international affairs. (RT) (Photo: Sputnik)
