France will provide funds to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees

Paris, March 30.- The French government confirmed that it will maintain its contribution to the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (Unrwa), estimated this year at 30 million euros.

In its usual daily press release, the Foreign Ministry stated that it considers the entity's role essential in the current scenario of humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, a territory devastated by more than five months of aggression by Israel in retaliation for the Hamas attack on October 7.

He also stated that France will ensure that UNRWA fulfills its missions in a spirit free of calls to hatred and violence.

Israel accused some workers at the agency, which provides health, education and aid to more than five million Palestinians spread across the Middle East, of being involved in the Hamas attack.

Regarding Tel Aviv's decision to block the flow of humanitarian assistance to Gaza destined for UNRWA, France deplored it and recalled the catastrophic situation prevailing in the Strip, where many people are starving.

We call on the Israeli authorities to urgently reverse their position, the Foreign Ministry stressed.

Regarding the accusations against UNRWA, he pointed to recent statements by the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, about his determination to carry out the necessary reforms in that specialized agency.

Guterres also insisted on calling on UN member states to contribute to an entity that in the current humanitarian crisis scenario plays key work in helping Palestinian refugees. (Text and photo: PL)
