Cuba will celebrate world days of Health and Physical Activity


 

Havana, April 2.- In order to celebrate the World Health and Physical Activity Days, on April 6 and 7, respectively, various community activities and scientific meetings will be held in Cuba.

Mario Cruz Peñate, representative of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in the country, expressed in a press conference held at the institution's headquarters, that this year the day focuses on highlighting health as a basic human right, under the motto My health, my Right.

The Cuban nation establishes access to free medical care for all in its Constitution and legal frameworks, and is now promoting a new Public Health Law, but this is not the case in all countries, he said.

Reaffirmed the commitment of the World Health Organization (WHO) to the promotion of health equality, the promotion and education of healthy lifestyles, the positive role of sport, physical activity in communities and in people's lives.

Carilda Peña García, Vice Minister of Public Health, ratified the political and governmental will of the Caribbean nation to maintain a free, accessible, regionalized and comprehensive system.

She reported that in all provinces activities will be carried out to support and guide people in need of technical advice to carry out physical exercises.

In response to the Sustainable Development Goals as a prioritized program of the State and the Ministry of Public Health, a movement is developing in municipalities, cities and communities for health, where the principle of intersectorality is materialized to raise indicators and confront non-existent diseases. communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity, stated Peña García.

Yoel Rodríguez Vega, national director of Physical Education of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, commented on the presentation of a panel on physical activity and health, with the presence of sports glories, medical personnel and members of community projects, as well as the execution of sports festivals in all provinces.

On April 6, the mixed relay run-walk will take place with a moderate intensity, led by the “Family in Motion” Project and sponsored by PAHO and the French Agency for Development.

Pablo Feal Cañizares, director of the Health and Disease Prevention Unit, stated that on the 5th the main event for World Health and Physical Activity Day will be held in the town of Artemisa.

World Health Day is celebrated on April 7 to commemorate the founding of the WHO in 1948.
