Díaz-Canel attends the ceremony of award of the Union of Young Communists


Havana, April 2.- With the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, the ceremony for the imposition of state awards of the Cuban Communist Party took place today in this capital. Union of Young Communists (UJC).

Among the work groups deserving of recognition are the Municipal Prosecutor's Office of the Sancti Spíritus province, the UJC Counterintelligence Committee of Ciego de Ávila, the Base Committee of the Isle of Youth Fire Department, as well as the Universidad de Oriente and the school special Amistad Cuba Viet Nam, located in Santiago de Cuba.

The Flag of Honor of the UJC was also delivered to the capital's Training School for officers of the penitentiary system, to the Ludema Furniture Base Business Unit of Las Tunas, the University of Pinar del Río Hermanos Saíz Monte de Oca, the Customs José Martí International Airport and the ETECSA Cienfuegos Provincial Territorial Division.

The Cuban president presented outstanding young people with the Julio Antonio Mella Order, the highest decoration awarded by the UJC, in recognition of extraordinary and exceptional merits achieved in study, creative work or in defending the interests of the young generation.

During the event, more than 30 young workers were also recognized with the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Medal for their revolutionary attitude and the notable merits they have achieved.

Likewise, the José Antonio Echeverría Medal was awarded to around eight students with extraordinary merits in study and research.

At the tribute, the second secretary of the political organization, Meyvis Estévez, highlighted that the Caribbean nation has a firm and loyal youth, aware of its challenges, committed to its time and its history, inspired by the ideas and legacy of the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

The event coincides with the activities contemplated in the XII Congress of the UJC, which began its program today with the participation of 400 delegates from all over the country and nearly a hundred guests.

The president was accompanied by members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organization, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, general secretary of the Cuban Workers' Central, and Teresa Amarelle Boué, general secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women; as well as José Ramón Machado Ventura, Commander of the Rebel Army, and Aylín Álvarez García, first secretary of the National Committee of the UJC, among other leaders.
