United Nations calls for an end to arms sales to Israel

Moscow, April 5.- The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council today voted on a resolution calling for an end to the sale of weapons to Israel due to the risk of “genocide” in the Gaza Strip. In addition, he called on Israel to be held accountable for possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in its offensive against Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement).

The resolution was introduced by Pakistan on behalf of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, except Albania, and was supported by 28 of the 47 members of the Human Rights Council. Meanwhile, six voted against and 13 abstained.

The text calls on countries to “cease the sale, transfer and diversion of weapons, ammunition and other military equipment to Israel” to “avoid further violations of international humanitarian law and human rights violations and abuses.”

“We need everyone to wake up and stop this genocide, a genocide televised around the world,” said Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Ibrahim Mohammad Khraishi.

The countries that voted against the resolution were the United States, Germany, Argentina, Bulgaria, Paraguay and Malawi.

The UN body's resolution, which does not mention Hamas, also highlighted "the need to ensure accountability for all violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law to end impunity."

In addition, it demands that it end the occupation of Palestinian territories and “immediately lift its blockade on the Gaza Strip and all other forms of collective punishment.” He also expressed “concern about statements by Israeli officials that amount to incitement to genocide.”

Faced with the accusations, the Israeli representative to the Council, Meirav Eilon Shahar, accused the body of having “abandoned the Israeli people for a long time and of defending Hamas” and stated, before the vote, that, according to the text, “Israel has no right to protect its people, while Hamas has every right to murder and torture innocent Israelis,” so a vote in favor of the resolution “is a vote for Hamas.” (RT) (Photo: Getty Images)
