Cuba ready to receive 200 thousand Russian tourists this year

Moscow, April 8.- Cuba is ready to receive at least 200,000 Russian guests this year, said today the Tourism Counselor of the island's Embassy in this country, Cristina León.

According to the official, from the from January 1st.  to March 31, 2024, the tourist flow of Russians to Cuba was 66,887 people, which was considered a record number, since in the same period of 2023 the Caribbean island received 32,224 people, the digital site published this Monday Tourbus.ru.

To increase tourist traffic, Cuban authorities are negotiating to increase the number of flights from the Russian Federation and attract investors and hotel companies from the Slavic country to the country's hotel sector, León said.

Currently, direct flights are operated from Russia to Cuba to Havana, Varadero and Cayo Coco, with an almost maximum load factor of 94 percent.

In 2019, before the pandemic, there were 18 weekly flights from Russia to Cuba. And now the authorities want to expand the geography of departures, exceeding the figure up to 20 weekly flights," concluded the Cuban official.

It should be remembered that Cuba received 185 thousand Russian tourists last year. This increase is due to the activity of tour operators, mainly Pegas Touristik, which together with the airline Nordwind implements flight programs from Moscow to the popular resorts of Varadero and Cayo Coco.
