Broad cooperation between Cuba and Vietnam emerges

Havana, April 12.- Cuba and Vietnam began official talks to strengthen cooperation in branches such as tourism, energy, biotechnology and agri-food production and promote business deals for the domestic market and exports.

The XLI Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Collaboration serves as the setting for the joint examination, which will last until April 15.

The forum is co-chaired by the Vietnamese Minister of Construction, Nguyen Thanh Nghi; and the Cuban deputy prime minister and head of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ricardo Cabrisas.

On the opening day, Cabrisas ratified the importance that Cuba attaches to economic, financial and commercial ties, as well as cooperation with the Asian nation.

Special thanks were conveyed for the understanding and sustained support of the Vietnamese Party and Government to the island during the most recent years, in which the country has faced a complex economic and financial situation.

This is a sign of the historical ties of brotherhood, friendship and solidarity that unite both nations, judged the leader, who characterized the damage to the Cuban economy and people, due to the combined effect of the United States blockade, the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and other international crises.

Currently, Vietnam is the main Asian investor in Cuba, maintains an active participation in the ventures located in the Mariel Special Development Zone (west) and is, at the same time, an important supplier of rice for the population's consumption, the leader said.

For his part, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi demonstrated the support of his Government and Vietnamese companies for the Economic and Social Development Program of Cuba until 2030 in prioritized sectors and fundamental activities. (PL) (Photo: ACN)
