Cuba requests United Nations rule on the admission of Palestine

Havana, 12 apr. - Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, today asked the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) to express its support for the admission of Palestine to the organization.

From his account in X, the Cuban Foreign Minister denounced that the United States continues to prevent the entry of Palestine as a Member State in the Security Council while protecting the acts of genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian population.

The United Nations Security Council has closed without consensus a meeting held this Thursday to address a request from the Palestinian authorities for the entry of Palestine as a full state in the international body.

The request for membership of the United Nations must first obtain the support of the Security Council, where the United States has the right of veto.

For the vote to be successful, nine of the 15 members of the Security Council must approve accession, if none of the five permanent members of the Council (the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom) veto the decision.
