Cuba’s measures to boost its economy

Havana, April 15.- The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero, reported today on the progress in the implementation of the Government's projections to correct distortions and re-boost the economy in 2024.

At a meeting of the Council of State, headed by its president Esteban Lazo, Marrero stressed that in recent weeks issues related to the reduction of the fiscal deficit and the operation of the socialist state company were examined.

Likewise, food production, the promotion of exports, the reduction of imports, and matters related to the macroeconomic stabilization policy, among other proposals, were addressed.

At the meeting, president of the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament), Félix Martínez, shared that they identified 75 distortions, which generated 207 actions for their transformation, that body reported on its website.

Martínez pointed out that as part of the parliamentary visits during 2024, 25 municipalities in five provinces, 550 centers and 52 communities with more than 17 thousand people were visited, to collect approaches, suggestions and identify problems.

During the ordinary session, the status of compliance with the State Budget Law for the year 2024 and the approved tax and fiscal measures was also examined.

In this regard, the Vice Minister of Finance and Prices, Maritza Cruz, and the head of the National Tax Office, Mary Ortega, detailed the actions adopted in the face of the high fiscal deficit, as part of the strategy to advance stabilization and economic recovery.

The meeting held the control and inspection of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, and the Provincial Government of the eastern province of Camagüey presented the plan of measures derived from the parliamentary visit carried out last July to that territory. (Text and photo: PL)
