Importance of meeting on new world economic order highlighted in Cuba

Havana, April 28.- The Second International Congress on world imbalances, the urgency of peace and development and the need for a New International Economic Order (NIEO), which begins tomorrow in the capital, will be an event of fruitful exchanges between political personalities of the world and professionals of economic sciences from some 25 countries.

This statement was made to the Cuban News Agency by Oscar Luis Hung Pentón, president of the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC), which has worked together with the Progressive International (IP) in the organization of the event, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

On Monday and Tuesday, the South Chamber of the National Capitol in Havana will host experts, academics and officials from various latitudes to, in addition to analyzing the current global context of multiple and successive crises, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration and Program of Action on the Establishment of a NIEO, approved by the United Nations General Assembly on May 1, 1971.

The also president of the Association of Economists of Latin America and the Caribbean (AEALC) highlighted the presence, in the capital, of the former Colombian president Ernesto Samper, with whom on Saturday they held a meeting at the ANEC headquarters, and the renowned American economist James Galbraith.

Havana once again hosts an important conclave in which prestigious academics, political leaders, government officials and representatives of social movements and intellectuals committed to the people will speak about the main conflicts in the world; all of them associated with the Progressive International, said Hung Pentón.

So our association hopes to be part of this new space for reflection and debate, with which we intend to create networks of collaboration or international cooperation, which can later be enriched with topics linked to the process of updating the Cuban economic and social model, and in turn deal with issues of the region, for the sake of the necessary Latin American integration.

In fact, this II International Congress on the imbalances of the world, the urgency of peace and development and the need for a New International Economic Order will be a preamble to the call for the XV International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems, which we will launch on Next June 14, within the scope of our IX ANEC Congress, he concluded.
