Update of Government Projections analyzed in Cuba

Havana, April 29.- Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister of Cuba, reported that it was decided to carry out a comprehensive review of the Government Projections to correct distortions and re-boost the economy during the year 2024, and of the Plan of approved actions to implement them.

The update of the schedule is supported by the need to accelerate a group of actions and projections that would have a more positive effect and that would allow the complex situation that the country is going through to be somewhat mitigated, explained the head of Government at the most recent meeting of the Council of Ministers, which was chaired by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and president of the Republic.

As reported by the Presidency of Cuba on its website, Marrero Cruz pointed out that the decision was made based on the tours of the territories, the doubts expressed by various sectors of society, the time that had passed, and other elements.

As a result of this review, he detailed, the eight general objectives initially planned were confirmed, while the Projections were modified and expanded, now totaling 92.

The macroeconomic stabilization program, banking and price issues, as well as the exchange market and the generation of income in foreign currency, among others, are the ones that need to be accelerated the most, because they are the ones that have the most favorable impact in the face of the population, stated the premier.

Regarding compliance with the schedule from March 23 to April 19, the First Vice Minister of Economy and Planning, Mildrey Granadillo de la Torre, said that in that period work has been done fundamentally on projections with an impact on reducing the fiscal deficit; the mechanism for the allocation and management of currencies; the relationships between the different actors in the economy; food production; price policy and the strengthening of the socialist state enterprise.

She highlighted that as part of the decision to continue eliminating subsidies on products and instead do so to people, new prices for cigarettes and tobacco were implemented during the period.

Likewise, she commented, among other actions carried out, the proposals for updated legal regulations for non-state economic actors were circulated to all agencies of the Central State Administration; The conciliation process on the criteria of the Draft Business Law was concluded, and constant monitoring of the implementation of projections focused on social programs was maintained.
