President of Cuba ponders the role of G77 and China in the world economy

Havana, May 1st. - President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the role of the G77 and China in the world economy during the presentation of a text he co-authored along with academics, experts and Cuban officials, official sources published today.

The book is published in the context of the 50th anniversary of the approval of the Declaration on the Establishment of a New International Economic Order and the Program of Action for its Achievement, approved by the United Nations General Assembly on May 1st., 1974.

During the presentation of the work: The current International Economic Order: an obstacle to development. The main challenge for the Group of 77 and China, the president pondered the scope of the publication that could fuel the existence of a global bloc that defends the most suffering countries on the planet.

The compendium is the result of arduous work supported by multiple reflections and consensus, said the Cuban head of state, before participants of the II Congress for the 50th anniversary of the New International Economic Order that met in Havana on April 29 and 30.

Díaz-Canel also considered that the greatest satisfaction for those who have engaged in editorial work would be to ensure that many come closer to it, and that its pages cause concern, lead to reflection and forge a global community of people with sensitivity to the problems of those who suffer the most in the world.

The President of the Republic also based his expectations on the book promoting actions to seek a New Economic Order, a more multilateral policy, which, he said, promotes the sovereign development that the suffering countries of the South deserve.

According to Presidencia Cuba on social network X and the newspaper Granma, for the occasion they also attended the Palace of the Revolution, headquarters of the Government, experts, specialists and publishers of the Cuban Book Institute, who participated in the edition of the material.

Also present were the island's foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, the president of the Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba, Oscar Luís Hung, and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in this capital. (Text and photo: PL)
