Havana, May 2.- The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, attends today in this capital the closing session of the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba and against the imperialism.
At the event, held at the Havana Convention Palace, 1,144 union leaders from 58 countries, from 220 organizations, among them representatives of trade union centers, solidarity movements and political parties, are present.
The general secretary of the Workers’s Central of the Caribbean nation, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, stressed in the meeting that the Revolution and the Cuban people will continue to firmly and tirelessly defend those principles.
Guilarte thanked the more than a thousand activists attending the event for their solidarity, while recognizing their fight against domination and hegemonism, unilateral coercive measures, “genocidal blockades and the imperial intention to undermine the identity of our peoples.” ”.
The union leader pointed out that the global geopolitical architecture receives the impacts of the cyclical and multidimensional crisis of the capitalist system. The program of the Meeting includes work in three commissions that will address global unionism and workers' struggles; the just causes of the people and the struggles of solidarity organizations in defense of peace and the sovereignty of the people.
The event is dedicated to the centenary of the physical disappearance of the leader of the world proletariat Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, to the legacy of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and to other heroes of the Caribbean nation.
The final day of the event was preceded by visits and tours to companies and centers of economic and social relevance in this capital and in the western province of Artemisa. (Text and photos: PL)
