The U.S. announces a new Presidential Memorandum that reinforces its aggression against Cuba

Havana, July 1 – The United States government released a new Presidential National Security Memorandum targeting Cuba on Monday. According to Cuban authorities, the measure reinforces the economic sanctions affecting the country.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla stated in his profile on X that the memorandum “reinforces the aggression and economic blockade that punishes the entire Cuban people and is the main obstacle to our development.” He also described it as “criminal conduct and a violation of the human rights of an entire nation.”

For his part, Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío stated that the memorandum does not respond to the national security interests of the United States nor does it benefit the well-being of its citizens. In his publication on X, he maintained that the measure “only responds to the narrow, vile, and vindictive interests of those who have made a fortune and a political career with the aggression against Cuba.”

"There are still those who claim it is not an economic blockade, and those who try to argue that it does not pose a fundamental and major obstacle to Cuba's economic unemployment and constitutes the main impediment to the country's development," Fernández de Cossío emphasized.

The Cuban government maintains that the memorandum is part of what it describes as a "ruthless economic war," aimed at limiting its commercial, financial, and economic connections with the rest of the world. It also reiterated that US sanctions represent a fundamental obstacle to the island's economic development. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
