From Guantánamo, a global yes for peace and against war

Guantánamo, May 2.- The urgency of banishing the danger of a global war conflict, today more likely than before, derived from the aggressive and expansionist behavior of the Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with the United States at the head; which threatens the very existence of humanity, will have space on the agenda of the VIII International Seminar on Peace and for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases.

Taking place from tomorrow until the fifth of the current month, the event will bring together more than 70 pacifists from some 25 nations in Guantanamo, Ana Teresa Nápoles Disotuar, delegate of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), told Granma in this province.

Opponents of the war, defenders of peace, and friends of Cuba will once again join their voices here, to demand the elimination of the nearly 800 foreign military enclaves spread throughout the world, including the Latin American region.

They will also demand the cessation of the arms race and the proliferation of weapons of mass extermination promoted by the American hegemon and NATO.

The demand for an end to the Zionist genocide against the brother people of Palestine will also be strong.

The halls of the Mariana Grajales Coello square in this provincial capital will host the presentations, the bases of a debate that will also confront the cyberwar aimed at imposing, from the media, a cultural and political change, in favor of the imperial interests.

Preamble to the America-Caribbean Regional Meeting of the World Peace Council, scheduled for May 6 in Santiago de Cuba, the VIII International Seminar on Peace and for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases will be heard again, in the voice of Cuba and from friends of the Island, the demand that the territory illegally occupied by the United States Naval Base in Guantanamo be returned, and that the cruel and inhuman improvised prison in the usurped site be closed.

It is expected that pacifist leaders from the Latin American region, and peace and solidarity organizations from Africa, Australia, the United States and Europe, will prestige the meeting that for two days will turn Guantánamo into the world capital of peace and peaceful coexistence.
