Humanitarian work in Gaza at risk due to operation against Rafah

United Nations, May 4.- An Israeli military offensive in Rafah would put humanitarian operations throughout Gaza at risk and end in massacre, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned.

During a briefing, the entity's spokesman, Jens Laerke, assured that any ground operation would only bring more suffering and death to that governorate, where more than 1.2 million displaced Palestinians remain.

For its part, the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) considered that the eventual offensive would represent one catastrophe after another for nearly 600,000 children.

According to UNICEF executive director Catherine Russell, almost all of the children living in Rafah are injured, sick, malnourished, traumatized or live with disabilities.

Figures from the World Health Organization assure that of the 12 hospitals in Gaza that still partially function, only three are in Rafah, where half of the Strip's population remains.

However, the UN health agency predicts that these facilities will soon cease to function if an incursion is carried out in Rafah, which would lead to a bloodbath.

According to the health authorities, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression against the Strip, on October 7, more than 34 thousand people have died in that territory and another 77 thousand have been injured.

Other figures assure that nearly 10,000 people remain under the rubble. (PL) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
