Havana, October 14. – The Vice Prime Minister of Cuba Jorge Luis Tapia is in Italy to participate in the IV World Food Forum that takes place in this capital from today until October 18.

According to a statement released by the Cuban embassy in Rome, Tapia arrived the day before at the head of a delegation from his country that will attend this event, convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and was received by the head of the island's diplomatic mission in this nation, Mirta Granda.

The Cuban representation is also made up of Granda, as well as senior managers from the ministries of Agriculture and Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment and Cuban diplomatic officials, who will participate in the debates that will take place at the FAO headquarters in the Italian capital.

As part of his work agenda, Tapia will maintain contact with the general director of that world organization, Qu Dongyu, and meetings are also planned with authorities from the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Food Program.

This event is attended by world leaders, entrepreneurs and experts who will address the critical global food situation and initiatives to address it, and is considered a global platform to actively shape agri-food systems and accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The surveys are structured this year around three pillars related to youth, science and innovation, as well as the investments necessary to promote the sector on a global scale, according to a statement released by the Press Office of that international organization.

It will discuss, among other issues, the development of family farming, the problem related to water scarcity and good practices to achieve a sustainable food future.

The event is part of the commemoration, on October 16, of World Food Day, which this year will have as its theme The right to food for a better life and a better future, with the aim of underlining “the need for access universal access to sufficient diverse, nutritious, affordable and safe foods,” the note states.
