Havana, June 30 – The president of Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, paid tribute today to the young revolutionaries Josué País, Salvador Pascual, and Floro Vistel, murdered by the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship in 1957.
In the social network X, the head of the Legislative stressed that these combatants symbolize "the heroism displayed by the purest of the Cuban youth".
On June 30, 1957, the 26th of July Revolutionary Movement planned to sabotage a rally organized by Batista's hitmen in Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Park in Santiago de Cuba, and organized several actions to that end. One of them was the placement, in early hours, of a time bomb in the sewer of the central public space, but before noon firefighters watered the place and surrounding areas, damaging the device’s detonation mechanism.
The group led by Josué País, quartered near the park, refused to wait and seized a car whose owner immediately reported the incident and alerted the police cordon protecting the event.
According to historical records, the area was filled with hitmen who competed in machine-gunning the young men, who were killed without any chance of defending themselves. (PL) (Photos: Taken from the Internet)
