One of the largest volcanoes in the world surprised by releasing a heart-shaped smoke, the images of which went viral because it reinforces a pre-Hispanic legend since this week it has had strong activity.
This is the Popocatépetl volcano, which is located between the State of Mexico, Puebla and Morelos, and is also known as 'Don Goyo', a name given to it by the inhabitants of the towns that surround it, since they consider it another neighbor. .
Legend has it that Popocatépetl was a Tlaxcalan warrior who became engaged to the princess Iztaccíhuatl just before leaving for war against the Aztecs.
With him absent, another man tricked the princess and told her that her lover had been killed in battle. She died of sadness, so when Popocatépetl returned victorious and ready to marry, he discovered that his love story had been cut short.
Then he ordered the construction of an immense tomb that was built on piled hills. Once the work was finished, he placed Iztaccíhuatl's corpse on top, kissed her on the lips and knelt to watch over her for eternity.
Over time, the bodies were covered with snow and earth until, with the help of the gods, they became two volcanoes that always remain together. The one in Iztaccíhuatl is known as "the sleeping woman" because it preserves that shape at its peak.
Thanks to this legend of eternal love, the original smoke-heart acquired another meaning. "Don Goyo was in love!", "How romantic El Popo is," "El Popo explodes with love," some users said on social networks.
"It is known that Popo is a man in love", "El Popo burns with passion", "Don Goyo activated his romantic mode", others added on social networks, while some more limited themselves to admiring the "incredible postcards" and the "spectacle of nature."
Without any romanticism, the authorities confirmed this Friday that the explosions, the emission of ash, incandescent fragments and gases continue, which is why a yellow alert is maintained which implies that no one should approach a distance of 12 kilometers. (Text and Photo: Cubasí)
