Cuba, humanitarian aid, emergency, United States

Let Cuba Live Campaign raises more funds in the United States

Washington, Oct. 31. - More than 40 electric generators arrived in Cuba in a second shipment of emergency humanitarian aid, thanks to a solidarity action that today adds the generous support of people of conscience in the United States.

At least 150,730 dollars have been raised so far by the Let Cuba Live campaign, which in its initial call set a goal of 100,000 dollars.

This is the second delivery destined for the Cuban province of Guantánamo (east) coordinated by the organizations The People's Forum, the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Hatuey Project.

The 46 generators in the shipment "will play a vital role as the Cuban people work tirelessly to provide relief to those affected by the terrible crisis plaguing the country due to the cruel US blockade," a statement said.

The first 30 tons of food purchased in the United States by the campaign arrived in the Caribbean nation last week.

According to the appeal published on the Internet "at this moment, Cuba is facing a serious moment of crisis.”In the midst of a devastating power blackout, a hurricane, and the ongoing brutal US blockade, the Cuban people face urgent, life-threatening conditions."

The call recalled that natural disasters and the deliberate attempt by the United States Government to strangle the Cuban economy and limit its trade capacity have caused a serious situation in Cuba, which is why “we must act now.”

The organizations agreed that the Cuban people are resilient. “They have faced more than 65 years of a cruel US blockade, but this moment is unique: the triple threat of blockade, hurricane and blackout makes this moment especially urgent,” they warned.

In more than six decades, the blockade cost Cuba more than $164 billion in damages and some $5 billion in losses in the last year alone (March 2023 to February 2024).

Yesterday at the headquarters of the UN General Assembly, the voice of the international community was unequivocal when 187 countries voted in favor of the resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States of America against Cuba.

The annual vote - which was held for the thirty-second time - showed Washington's isolation in this policy of suffocation imposed more than six decades ago on the neighboring nation.
