Havana, Nov 14. - Russian Minister for Emergency Situations Aleksandr Kurenkov will hold high-level meetings and tour historic sites here today as part of his agenda in Cuba until next Thursday.
Kurenkov will participate in the re-inauguration of the National Museum of Cuban Firefighters and will pay tribute to Soviet soldiers who died while fulfilling their missions on the island, Prensa Latina confirmed.
Likewise, he is expected to speak with Cuban Civil Defense authorities and visit the Fidel Castro Ruz Center in the capital.
As part of the program, Kurenkov was received the day before at the Palace of the Revolution (headquarters of the Executive) by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
It is a pleasure to receive him in Cuba, assured the president, when meeting with the Russian minister who arrived in Havana on Tuesday in the midst of the tasks of recovering from damage recently caused by two hurricanes and the same number of earthquakes.
The head of state highlighted the importance of this stay and thanked the help provided by the Russian Federation in the face of natural disasters and the cooperation to confront the tough United States blockade on the island.
For his part, Kurenkov said that this is a visit that contributes to consolidating the bonds of friendship between the two countries and is very helpful for us.
The minister showed satisfaction for being in Cuba and for the opportunity to exchange ideas with the head of state.
We came with the objective of continuing to strengthen collaborative relations with Cuba, which have a friendly and camaraderie character, he stressed.
The head of that portfolio in the Russian cabinet toured the facilities of the Cuban Fire Department (CBC, by its acronym in Spanish) in this capital and went to the Special Rescue and Salvage Unit, where he spoke with leadership’s members of the Ministry of the Interior and the CBC.
At the place he received an update on the strategic projections of bilateral collaboration and the missions of the center, which include the internationalist contribution of its members in countries affected by disasters.
The head of Russian emergency situations also visited the Cuba-Russia Regional Rescue and Fire Training Center, where these specialists from Cuba and other Latin American nations are trained.
