Cuban Prime Minister evokes legacy of student leader

Havana, Jan 10.- Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero recalled today the legacy of student leader Julio Antonio Mella (1903-1929), on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of his death.

On the social network X, Marrero quoted the phrase I die for the Revolution, the last words expressed by Mella when he was assassinated in Mexico.

Student leader, tireless fighter. His legacy, of a profound anti-imperialist character, is today an example to follow for the new generations of Cubans, the head of government highlighted on the platform.

Mella, founder of the University Student Federation and one of the participants in the creation of the first Communist Party of Cuba in August 1925, is considered one of the emblematic figures within the revolutionary process in Cuba in the first half of the XX century.

At the age of 26, on January 10, 1929, he was assassinated in Mexico by order of the Cuban dictator Gerardo Machado, but in his short life he developed an intense political life, especially within the framework of the student struggles at the University of Havana. (Text and photo: PL)
