Holguín, Feb 18. - Promoting female empowerment is one of the work objectives of the Project for Strengthening Women's Leadership and Participation in the Renewable Energy Sector in Cuba (Former) that benefits the province of Holguín.
Cristian Cadi, a specialist in this branch and collaborator of the group, told ACN that through training actions the social role of women is highlighted, with emphasis on single mothers and vulnerable families.
He highlighted that this international collaboration program between the governments of Cuba and Canada, implemented since 2019, includes activities in communities, educational institutions and universities aimed at promoting gender equality in engineering.
Former's work, said the Honduran expert, is not limited to the installation of renewable sources, but rather pursues household well-being in the economic and social sphere.
He pointed out that specialized courses have been given at the universities of Moa and Holguín focused on teaching the exploitation of wind, solar, thermal and hydraulic energy, in addition to exchange visits to Canadian higher education institutions.
The instructions, he stressed, also include references to the strengthening of norms or regulations implemented in the largest of the Antilles to comply with these objectives.
For his part, Luis Esteban Arrieta, director of the project for the Canadian counterpart, emphasized the need to create new social stereotypes that promote the insertion of women within this sector.
Former benefits more than 500 families in rural and difficult-to-access areas on the Caribbean island with the installation of isolated photovoltaic panels in homes and economic objectives to improve the quality of life of the population.
In parallel, work is being done on the creation of specialized classrooms at the Luis de Feria Polytechnic and the donation of equipment to health and education institutions, included in the energy matrix change programs. (Text and Photo: ACN)
