Havana, Mar 1. - Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, attends the closing gala of the XXV Cigar Festival, held at the Pabexpo venue.
The Cuban president is joined by Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, as well as other leaders, and on this occasion, on its XV anniversary, homage is paid to the Behike line of Cohiba, one of the most exclusive in the portfolio of the mixed company Habanos S.A.
Maritza Carrillo González and Luis Sánchez-Harguindey, co-presidents of this corporation, when welcoming the participants in the evening, recalled that the prestigious event has also been dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the emblematic Romeo y Julieta brand.
They specified that during the festival, with an intense program of activities, we have explored the culture of tobacco and launched new products for fans, in addition to thanking farmers, sponsors and various entities for their support in the successful realization of the event.
At the time of closing this information, the auction of six luxury humidors, representing each of the global brands of Habanos S.A., was highly anticipated, while the money raised will go to Cuban public health.
In the 2024 edition, the sale of the eight auctioned humidors alone generated a record 17.8 million euros, when in 2023 it had been 11.22 million euros, which reaffirms the prestige that the traditional event is increasingly acquiring.
During the final evening, the 2024 Habanos Awards will be presented, a recognition to those who have contributed significantly in terms of production, marketing and communication to the million-dollar sales of premium cigars worldwide.
Also in this XXV edition, the largest participation in a Cigar festival was achieved, with more than three thousand businessmen, specialists, distributors and producers from 110 nations attending. (Text and photo: ACN)
