La Coubre: One more chapter of terrorism against Cuba (Photo)

Havana, Mar 4th. - With the sabotage of the CIA to French steam La Coubre, today 65 years ago, Cuba found the dimension of the battle it had to face to defend its right to sovereignty.

This terrorist fact, which continues to go unpunished, was remembered in the Caribbean nation during an event that was attended by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and where tribute to the victims was paid.

As part of the ceremony, a solemn session of the Provincial Court of Havana was held, which, after assessing evidence and the testimony of the relatives of the deceased, found the guilt of the United States government in the vile act.

The body recalled that around 3:00 p.m. on 4 March 1960, a first explosion occurred with the destructive power of 31 tons of grenades and 44 tons of ammunition within the boat, cargo from the port of Antwerp, Belgium, with a final destination in the Cuban capital.

Shortly thereafter, the genocidal intention of the perpetrators of this attack was confirmed when a second detonation was recorded, precisely when the aid forces, Firefighters and the Revolutionary Police provided assistance to the first affected.

The court stressed that the final death toll was 101 deaths, 400 people injured or incapacitated for life and 82 children without parents.

He stressed that the explosion of La Coubre was the product of a terrorist act implemented by the U.S. government, as part of the actions carried out at the time, to discredit the nascent revolution and destabilize the country, not an isolated accident.

This conclusion, he pointed out, was ratified on Tuesday from the practice of expert evidence, in which a weapons specialist explained the impossibility of seeing himself accidentally, due to the way in which the explosions and the devices that gave rise to them were provoked.

Was it not an accident, as it was proven, but an intentional fact. Sabotage prepared outside Cuba, in which the hand of the U.S. intelligence services was present, reiterated the body, which described the fact as a crime against humanity.

On behalf of the people of Cuba and the families of the victims, the court condemned the two-faced, disloyal and racist policy of the northern nation against the island, which had one of its bloodiest chapters the explosion of the ship and today - it denounced it. It is manifested by the application of more than a hundred coercive measures, as part of the unconventional war.

He also said that in the face of these challenges and attacks, the firmness of Cuba and the Revolution will prevail.

One day after the accident, on 5 March 1960, a massive burial man gathered the Havanans at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and 12th Street, in the vicinity of the Columbus Cemetery to say goodbye to the victims.

In front of the crowd, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, would bequeath the slogan of "Homeland or Death." While Ernesto Che Guevara's firm countenance would be immortalized by photographer Alberto Korda to become a symbol of resistance. (Text and photos: PL)
