Camaguey, Mar 5th. - As part of the special program for the 65 years of the foundation of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) and the 95th anniversary of the birth of Vilma Espín Guillois, the Gígana federations will carry out several activities to celebrate International Women's Day.
According to Yudiet Castellanos Victoria, secretary general of the organization in the territory, the provincial event to commemorate the date will be held on Friday, March 7, in Sierra de Cubitas, a municipality that stands out in the education and agriculture sectors. Florida and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes will also be recognized there as outstanding. A day earlier, the municipal events will take place.
"We already started with some actions such as the creation for the first time of a women-only sports rock, in the distribution El Retiro, it is composed of 6 girls and we want to add more, and during the weekend we carry out the initiative Recycle my neighborhood, for the collection of raw materials in changing neighborhoods," she explained.
During the week, they plan to provide recognitions to women workers of the Electric Company, exchange with colleagues of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, and girls who are passing the Voluntary Military Service, as well as meetings with prisoners in prisons and women combatants.
The FMC in Camagüey has about 300,000 affiliates divided into almost 6000 delegations, and it is currently facing main challenges to rescue the role of women in the neighborhood, updating delegations and blocs to facilitate work in conjunction with the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution and the Union of Young Communists, care for single mothers and vulnerable situations, the prevention of gender-based violence and teenage pregnancy.
