Havana, Mar 16th. - With the participation of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, the Sixth National Conference of the Association of Veterans of the Cuban Revolution (ACRC) concluded today, in this capital.

The closure was also accompanied by Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power; Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the PCC; Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR); and Major General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, Minister of the Interior, among other leaders and guests.

In the summary words of the meeting, the Cuban President highlighted in those present the founding imprint of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque and a long trajectory of service to the people and to the highest values of the Homeland.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that the ACRC must remain that space for unity of ideas and action with the task of adjusting its objectives to the challenges of the current context and always in defense of the Revolution and socialism.

He stressed that each of its members stands on the example and life story of great value in daily battles in the face of the attempts of ideological subversion and cultural colonization that they want to impose on the island.

Faced with the threats we face, 147 years after the historic Baraguá Protest, we always defend the unity, the dignified resistance of the Cuban people for the sovereignty and immense work of social justice that the revolutionary project is going through and the fighters are the powerful moral army we have, he concluded.

According to the electoral process carried out with the participation of the 177 delegates present, the new national directive of the ACRC was announced, headed by Major General José Antonio Carrillo Gómez.

Carrillo Gómez pointed out that the meeting discussed in depth the main strengths and problems that marked the functioning of the organization in the five-year period from 2020 to 2024, characterized by the resurgence of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the largest of the Antilles by the government of the United States and the incidence of the pandemic of the COVID-19.

He said that these circumstances had an appreciable impact on the usual functioning of the association, which has not prevented the resumption of activities with the realization of more than 13,000 base balances throughout the country prior to the meeting.

On the occasion, special recognitions were given to the General of the Army, to the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic, and to the Commander of the Rebel Army José Ramón Machado Ventura, and another additional that will be sent to the Commander of the Revolution Guillermo García Frías.

The provincial directorates of the association in Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Ciego de Ávila, Granma and Guantanamo were also distinguished as the most prominent, and members of the first national board of the organization who remain closely linked to it.

According to the ideas expressed, the report and changes in organic statutes were approved in committee work, aimed mainly at curbing the decline in membership and updating dynamics to the conditions of the present, such as the fight on social networks and the five-year decrease in the income period for officials active in the FAR and the Ministry of the Interior, and 10 years for reservists, civil defense workers and members of defense councils.

It was agreed to maintain the current amount of the contribution to be paid along with the possibility that each participant could make an additional contribution, the importance of self-financing, the link with schools for the patriotic formation of the new generations and reaffirmed the role of popular recreational shooting as a method for the military and political preparation of the population, among other issues addressed.
