Camagüey, March 27th. - Several alternatives are being adopted in the region to improve teacher coverage, one of the greatest challenges facing the education sector, said Dr. Loreley Suárez Capdevila, provincial director, in a press conference.
At the end of February, we had 2,612 needs, representing nearly 75 percent coverage; we are currently implementing several options, including hiring production and services specialists to support students in subjects such as math, Spanish, history, English, and physical education, she commented.
The educational levels of Basic Secondary Education, Pre-university Education, and Polytechnic Education are those that most feel the need for teachers.
Other indicators expected to improve by 2025 include enrollment and retention in teaching programs, as Camagüey currently offers training in 14 specialties for primary and secondary education. In this regard, the Camagüey university also recruits qualified professionals into the education system.
We still have much to do in teaching history, confronting cultural colonization through best practices, and addressing the growing challenges of preventive work with actions that extend within the institution and with families, Suárez Capdevila stated.
Next June, 19 schools, eight of them in Camagüey, will be subject to the Regional Education Quality Assessment. Third and sixth grade enrollments will be subject to exams, which will also be administered to teachers and families.
To undertake these tasks, the sector has a budget of more than two billion pesos in the current calendar year, a figure that demonstrates the social support for one of the pillars of the Cuban Revolution. (Diosmel Galano Oliver/Radio Camagüey) (Photo: Granma Digital)
