Havana, Apr 11th. - The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today recalled the visit of the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, 30 years ago, to the place of the disembarkation of the leaders of the island's independence war.
"What deep connection did you bring to Fidel on April 11, 1995, until the beach, at the foot of Cajobabo, where Martí and Gómez landed 100 years earlier?" wrote the president on the social network X.
Our story is full of those mysterious links that summon us back to Playita de Cajobabo. "Here we are today," he added.
According to historical notes, the hero José Martí and the Dominican Cuban patriot Máximo Gómez arrived on April 11, 1895 through the Playita de Cajobabo, located in the eastern province of Guantanamo, after a difficult sea crossing.
Cubans resumed their struggles for independence from Spain on February 24 of that same year without the presence of the main chiefs.
On April 1, 1895, Antonio Maceo, Flor Crombet, José Maceo and other patriots had arrived on Cuban shores in Duaba, in the east of the country.
A few days after his arrival on the island, the National Hero was promoted to Major General of the Liberation Army, a fact that dispelled certain doubts about the validity of his management in the theatre of operations. (Text and photo: PL)
