Havana, April 14 – The Ministry of Higher Education (MES, for its acronym in Spanish) today guarantees all Cuban students the opportunity to access a university degree or a higher technical training program through innovative proposals.
For the next school year, the portfolio will offer more than 100 thousand places, distributed in three academic modalities: day course, meeting course and distance learning.
According to the general director of undergraduate training at the MES, Deysi Fraga, “the ministry strengthens efforts and measures to consolidate that more and more young people, after having completed upper secondary level, enter the country's universities.”
Fraga explained at a press conference that all institutions attached to the MES work on the comprehensive training of professionals in various branches and that, at the same time, they can act as agents of change in economic and social transformations, moving towards sustainable development, according to the newspaper Trabajadores.
On the other hand, the national director of entry and job placement of the MES, René Sánchez, asserted that “anyone who wants to access a university degree will be able to do so.”
He explained that, currently, in addition to applying to the higher level through entrance exams, it will also be possible to access with a direct place based on academic merits and through direct routes for outstanding talents.
Another access route for students is university college, a variant that already has more than 10 years of experience in the country and registers very good results.
The entrance exams for the subjects of Spanish, Mathematics and History will be held on May 6, 9 and 13 in the first call, respectively, and in a second special call on the 23rd, 25th and 27th, for those who were unable to attend. (Text and photo: PL)
