Camaguey, Apr 22nd. - On the occasion of the 55th edition of Earth Day, with the motto Our Power, our planet, Camagüey’s subsidiary of the Cuban Association of Animal Production (ACPA) stands out for its efforts in the conservation of genetic resources and the promotion of a more efficient and sustainable livestock culture.
The organization has implemented for more than 25 years innovative strategies that improve the quality of milk and meat production. In addition, these actions help to protect the environment and reduce the impact of climate change in the 13 agrarian municipalities.
It has also been recognized at the national level for its commitment to the implementation of actions that enhance genetic limits and promote livestock culture. Through training programmes for producers and technicians, the development of knowledge and practices that optimize the production and conservation of indigenous and Creole animal resources, many of which have roots in Cuba's history and culture, is promoted.
In collaboration with the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz, several researches have been carried out in productive units where innovative strategies have been proposed to ensure the proper management of herds. These proposals include the use of local resources, the incorporation of alternative foods and the implementation of silvopastorial systems, in order to optimize supervision and improve animal productivity.
The ACPA stands out for its studies in the characterization of natural resources on farms, the use of biopreparations in planting areas and the implementation of conservation practices and technological innovation. In addition, it has developed programmes to strengthen genetic reserve areas, which protect and promote indigenous and Creole resources adapted to local conditions in Cuba.
These actions demonstrate the commitment of Camagüey to a more sustainable, environmentally friendly model of agricultural and livestock development, adapted to the province's own characteristics. On Earth Day, the region reaffirms its leadership in innovation, conservation and sustainability, demonstrating that through joint work and science it is possible to contribute to a healthier and more resilient planet.
