Camagüey, April 24th. -The recognition of the five groups that earned the status of National Vanguard this year, based on their results in the 2024 calendar, marks the day of activities of the Transport and Ports Union in the province of Camagüey, in honor of May Day.

The entities that received the significant incentive, approved by the Cuban Workers' Union, are Aerovaradero, the Air Navigation Company, the Camagüey Railway Workshops, and the Base Business Units of Astilleros Oriente and Navegación Caribe, the latter located in the industrial port city of Nuevitas.

Camagüey also has seven other outstanding centers nationwide aspiring to this category, and 14 workers will receive the Jesús Menéndez Medal and the Lázaro Peña Order, Grade I, Grade II, and Grade III, respectively, a new opportunity to honor the efforts of men and women in the different areas of the sector.

José Raúl Rivero Salazar, secretary of the Transport and Ports Union in the province, explained to the Cuban News Agency that, as every year, they will attend the parades celebrating May Day in this city, where 2,728 workers are expected to march, and in the municipalities, where representatives from all union structures will participate.

He emphasized that this day is a workday, which is why many people are responsible for providing various services. This is also a way for them to offer their contribution on such a significant day, considering that transportation and related activities are essential to the country's economic and social spheres.

Among the challenges to be met before International Workers' Day is the closing of the Aporte a la Patria (Contribution to the Homeland), a task they accomplished last year in honor of the celebration.

The province of Camagüey has 6,722 members in the union representing Cuban transport workers, more than 2,500 of whom are self-employed. (Jorge Luis Moreira Massagué/ACN) (Photos: Taken from the Radio Nuevitas website)
