Russia, May 6th.- The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, visited here today scientific and technological centers of international relevance and of importance for Russian-Cuban bilateral cooperation.
Accompanied by the governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, the head of state of the Antillean as part of his official visit to Russia that began on May 4, reached the lands of the pharmaceutical company Vertex, located on the Novoorlovskaya site of the Special Economic Zone of the city.
The president and the head of the so-called capital of the Russian North during the tour became familiar with the company's line of finished products, which range from vital drugs to cosmetics, also arrived at production workshops and inspected the packaging line.
During the visit, both authorities and the delegations that accompanied them discussed issues related to action to achieve greater development in cooperation between the pharmaceutical industries of St. Petersburg and Cuba.
Díaz-Canel proposed that the Russian side resume the exchange of technologies, based on the high potential for the research, development and joint production of medicines and cosmetic products that exist in both countries.
In this regard, he invited representatives of the pharmaceutical industry in St. Petersburg to visit Cuban production facilities and participate in the scientific conferences held on the Caribbean island.
In addition, the Antillean dignitary commented that Cuba also has a Mariel Special Economic Zone, located in the west of Havana, where biotechnology companies are located.
He gave as an example the presence in this enclave of centers where a hepatitis vaccine has been created, a single drug for the treatment of diabetic foot (Heberprot-P) and other drugs with global recognition.
Vertex is a clear example of success in import substitution and the innovative development of our pharmaceutical industry, Beglov said.
The work of these companies confirms the status of St. Petersburg as the leading center of the pharmaceutical industry in Russia. The company's specialists guarantee the availability of high quality medical care for our citizens, he added.
In this regard, he highlighted that Vertex representatives established initial contacts with Cuban colleagues on the production of vitamins, pregnancy tests, other medical devices and medications.
Díaz-Canel and Beglov also toured the areas of electromagnetic compatibility and climate testing laboratories, comprehensive testing centers and innovative energy from PJSC Rosseti's Smart Digital Network Laboratory.
The visit served to discuss the expansion of cooperation between energy engineers in Russia and Cuba in the field of operation and the development of the network complex, the introduction of modern technologies and the guarantee of the safety of electrical installations.
St. Petersburg specialists invited their Cuban colleagues to implement joint educational projects, expand information exchange, as well as cooperate in the design and construction of energy facilities, equipment testing, the introduction of digital technologies and the solution of cybersecurity problems.
The Cuban president valued the level of competence of PJSC Rosseti and expressed interest in using the advanced developments of the Russian city and its professionals for effective management in several economic lines of Cuba. (Text and Photo: Cubasí)
