Remarcable Spanish academic at the University of Camagüey

Camagüey, May 14th. - As part of its strategy of internationalization, the University of Camagüey (UC) today receives Maria de los Angeles Axpe, a prominent researcher at the University of La Laguna (Spain), on a working visit.

The expert in research methodologies, known for her contributions to the pedagogical field in Europe, held a productive meeting with directors of the Faculty of Pedagogical Sciences of the UC, analyzing opportunities for collaboration in doctoral training, academic mobility and joint research projects.

During her meeting with the rector of the Cuban institution, Julio Madera, and the doctor of Science, Alicia Rodríguez, first vice-rector, highlighted the key role of this exchange to consolidate strategic alliances with higher education institutions of the European Union, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Axpe's agenda includes the coordination of an international seminar on current trends in educational research, aimed at strengthening the scientific capacities of the Camagüey’s teachers staff and promoting its insertion into global academic networks." Visits like this are essential to modernize our training processes under international standards and encourage joint publication in high-impact magazines," Rodriguez said, stressing UC's commitment to excellence in global university rankings.

As part of her stay, the Spanish academic will hold a workshop on financing Horizon Europe projects, providing key tools for Cuban researchers to access international calls for cooperation.

This exchange is part of the collaboration agreement between the UC and the University of La Laguna, which since 2019 has allowed the realization of academic stays, co-driving theses and the co-authorship of indexed publications.

The agenda also includes a meeting with UC international master's students, where strategies for professional integration will be addressed in globalized educational contexts.

With this visit, the University of Camagüey advances in its international projection, strengthening its position as a reference pole in pedagogical training in the Caribbean region. (Text and photo: PL)
