Camagüey, May 21st. - Disaster Risk Reduction Week began in this municipality under the slogan "Strengthening Preparedness and Response Capacities to Address Natural, Technological, and Health-Related Events."
The opening ceremony took place in the vicinity of the Cándido Gonzalez Morales baseball stadium, where it was explained that a series of tasks will be carried out until next Friday, involving all defense zones, entities, organizations, and the public.
Major Daniel Pérez Gonzalez, head of the Civil Defense Corps in the city of Camagüey, said that several actions will be carried out, including collecting solid waste, eliminating micro-dumps, cleaning septic tanks and ditches, and unblocking drains.
Work will also be done on tree pruning and felling, installing protective structures, securing lightweight roofs, providing practical first aid classes, and training specialized personnel for rescue and salvage operations, among other activities.
Disaster Risk Reduction Week will be followed by Exercise Meteoro, which will take place on the 24th and 25th of this month, to prepare for the hurricane season from June 1st to November 30th. (Rodolfo Medina Hechavarría/Radio Camagüey) (Photo: Internet)
