Havana, 28 May.- Representatives of the project Music is a woman shared details of the Omara Portuondo concert on her 95th birthday, to be held on June 5 at 19:00 local time, at the National Museum of Fine Arts.
The event, in this capital, is a celebration of the legacy of one of the greatest exponents of Cuban popular music, as part of an action agenda to keep the project created in 2023 active, beyond the events that have hosted it.
Omara is one of the Cuban divas that we like to have among us, who has filled us with glory with her name, with her art, bringing our culture to the whole world, said singer Hera de Cuba, creator of Music is Women.
About 50 musicians, members of different groups, will pass through the MNBA stage, such as Emy Abreu, Kamila Colarte & Afromusa, Ensemble Vocal Luna, Yaneris Carbonell & DEVA, Vocal Almas, Opening Cuba, Greter and others.
The concert will feature a repertoire of 14 iconic songs played by Omara throughout his career, such as Three Words, Where You were, White Butterfly, Son al-Son, Siboney, Friends; all authored by Cuban composers.
For me it is a privilege to know, to understand the art of women, because it has been difficult, even the visibility of women and it is an honor to try to play at the level of Omara, acknowledged violinist Emy Abreu, who will open the show.
As a musician and artist for me this concert is a dream come true; to have the opportunity to sing to life and imprint that Omara Portuondo has is a privilege and I am sure that the rest of the artists feel the same, Hera de Cuba told Prensa Latina.
From the interpretations of the artists that make up Music is Women with its different styles, the gala will merge the most indigenous Cuban music with contemporary rhythms.
Music is a project that unites women new leaders of the music industry, although its work team is not exclusively female; they have participated in events such as the 40 Jazz Plaza Festival and the Cubadisco 2025 Festival. (Text and photos: PL)
