May sounds like metal

Camagüey, May 29 – From May 29 to 31, the House of the Young Creator will host the XXI edition of the emblematic Cuban rock festival Sounds of the City, thanks to the sustained support of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS).

Despite the current limitations, which have reduced the number of invited bands, the Camagüey scene does not retreat. At a press conference, Xavier Guerra Carmenates, president of the AHS in Camagüey, announced that groups from Cienfuegos, Holguín and Granma will participate in two intense days of concerts.

But the true act of resistance lies in keeping alive a festival that, for more than two decades, has given voice and body to a way of life: that of Cuban rock, marginalized from official catalogs, without a salary or market, but full of conviction.

Luis Daniel Batista (Machine), one of its historical promoters, highlighted the importance of preserving the essence of Sounds of the City, a festival that has been a platform for emerging bands and a space of loyalty for a passionate audience.

The event also celebrates the 10th anniversary of two Camagüey bands: Sex By Manipulation and Desbroce. A decade of perseverance in a country where sustaining a metal project is more feat than career.

Sounds of the City will host a theoretical space and book presentation on the history of rock in Cuba, to reflect on an often underestimated genre.

That in May this festival is still held in Camagüey is testimony. It speaks of a city that, against all odds, continues to beat the rhythm of metal, thanks to the commitment of artists and managers who believe in the cultural value of these sounds.
