Camagüey, June 13th. - More than 6,700 children in this province received the red scarf, a symbol that identifies members of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM) at the highest level, as part of the transition process after completing third grade in primary school.

In special morning meetings held at various schools across the territory, parents and teachers placed this emblem, which symbolizes new responsibilities in continuing their studies. Children who until now wore the blue scarf, representing the Moncada pioneers, are advancing to a higher level in the detachments and collectives.

The Rafael María de Mendive School was the setting for the main activities in Camagüey to commemorate this anniversary. The event was chaired by Walter Simón Noris, a member of the Cuban Parliament and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Camagüey; Yennys León Mayedo, provincial vice-governor; Heinier Lian Carbajo Baxter, First Provincial Secretary of the Union of Young Communists (UJC); and representatives of political and grassroots organizations.

During the event, tribute was paid to two key heroes in Cuban history: General Antonio Maceo and Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, in commemoration of their 180th and 97th birthdays, respectively. A group of pioneers and guide teachers received awards and recognitions, highlighting the importance of this date for the community.

In this context, the pioneers reaffirmed their commitment to being loyal to their organization, fulfilling their duties, and improving daily in their studies and assigned tasks, with the goal of being useful in the future as worthy successors to the UJC.
