Camagüey, June 13th. - The Camagüey Territorial Standardization Office held a workshop at the Santa Cecilia Convention Center focused on actions to promote the advancement and impact of standardization, metrology, quality, and food safety on the local economy.
The session was opened by Master of Science and Engineer Raúl Vergara Figueredo, who addressed the most relevant aspects of Decree 8. During his presentation, he emphasized the importance of correctly applying units of measurement in weighing processes. He also pointed out that, on occasion, unauthorized weighing containers and equipment are used in the public sector, which can affect the accuracy and reliability of the data.
Later, Carlos Gabriel Antúnez Batista, director of the state inspection department, explained the implementation of Decree Law 9 of 2020, related to food safety, and Decree 10, which establishes the necessary actions in this area. He emphasized the importance of using adequate resources and training personnel to raise awareness of food safety.
During the workshop, audience participation was active, with several questions that allowed for a deeper understanding of compliance with the regulations presented and strengthened attendees' knowledge.
It is worth remembering that in May 1963, the 16th World Health Assembly approved the Joint Programme on Food Quality and Safety, recognizing that the two aspects are closely related. Food is considered safe when it poses no risk to the health of the consumer or their offspring.
According to the agenda for this event, which was attended by the CITMA delegate in Camagüey, the call for applications for the 2024 Provincial Quality Award was also announced, as part of efforts to promote excellence in these areas.
