Rome, July 2 – The Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernández, continues his tour of Italy today in the region of Tuscany, where he is carrying out an extensive program of activities that contribute to strengthening relations between the two peoples.
Hernández was received this morning in the city of Viareggio by members of the local circle of the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (ANAIC, for its acronym in Spanish), the president of that group, Marco Papacci, told Prensa Latina. He is accompanying the coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR, for its acronym in Spanish) of the island on his tour.

Papacci indicated that, as part of his visit to Italy, organized by ANAIC, the also deputy and member of the Council of State of Cuba met the day before with Cosimo Guccione, president of the Florence City Council, and with Councilor Dmitry Palagi, a member of the Left Project of that commune.
At that meeting, held at the headquarters of the Florence City Council and also attended by Marco Fantechi, a member of ANAIC's national secretariat, the Italian authorities reaffirmed their condemnation of the United States' economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba.
They also spoke out against the inclusion of Cuba on the spurious list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, a unilateral action by the US government aimed at increasing pressure against that country.
The two Tuscan politicians pledged to present a motion to the Florence City Council condemning these actions against the Antillean nation by the United States, Papacci indicated.
At 6:00 p.m. local time this Wednesday, the Cuban hero will participate in an event to be held in the Maestri d'Ascia e Calafati Hall, at the CRO Darsene 45 social center, sponsored by the Partisans Forever Association in that town.
The national coordinator of the CDR arrived in Rome on 23 June, where he began his visit which included in its initial part several events, including a meeting with the staff of the Cuban diplomatic mission, as well as a conference at the Roma Tre University.
He subsequently held contacts with members of solidarity groups in Naples and participated in the IV National Festival of ANAIC, held in Cava dei Tirreni City, in the province of Salerno, in the southern region of Campania, from July 27 to 29.
He then traveled to Florence, where he has carried out various activities to date, and from July 4 to 6 will participate in the III International Meeting "Europe for Cuba."
He will continue his tour to Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna, and Turin, in Piedmont, where he will hold talks with friends of Cuba in those cities, pay tribute to Commander Ernesto Che Guevara at the monument erected in the square that bears his name, and climb Fidel Peak in the Alps.
"For years we fought for his freedom, and we finally have him with us," Papacci told in recent statements to Prensa Latina, highlighting the importance of the Cuban hero's visit to Italy, which will last until July 9. (Text and photos: PL)
