Camagüey, July 9 – The national event, "Los días de Guillén," (Guillén Days) will take place from July 10 to 13 in Camagüey, with the participation of representatives from Chile, as the guest country.
Sponsored by the Nicolás Guillén Foundation (FNG, for its acronym in Spanish), this meeting will be dedicated to the 123rd anniversary of the birth of Cuba's National Poet, the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, the six and a half decades since the founding of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC, for its acronym in Spanish), and the 35th anniversary of Ácana Publishing House.
At a press conference, Yoandra Santana Perdomo, president of the FNG branch in Camagüey, discussed the main activities, including the pre-event course "The Journalism of Nicolás Guillén," taught by Maria Antonio Borroto, PhD in Sciences, and the presentation of digital books from the publishing houses Ácana, Orto, and Laia.
Special moments will be the tribute to Guillén with a chorus reading by Camagüey poets of the elegy El apellido, in the Coppelia park, and the award of the contest Pisto Manchego, convened by the Union of Journalists of Cuba in this territory.
Armando Pérez Padrón, president of the UNEAC Provincial Committee, stated that speaking about the author of "Tengo" is speaking about Cuba, and the main mission of all artists is to preserve the legacy and the Homeland.
Camagüey, in particular, must keep Guillén alive, the great exponent of black poetry, the most Spanish of poets; this event is a duty that springs from the complicity of all of us who seek to bring light and hope, Pérez Padrón emphasized.
The Punto de Luz space will present the Chilean texts "Semilla Estelar" by Igor Fernando Fuentes and "El crimen de la calle Arauco" by Iván Ramírez Araya, as well as "Postales de agua" by Camagüey native Yoandra Santana.
Concerts, exchanges, theoretical presentations, and exhibitions will be part of the offerings of an event that honors the territory by highlighting the values ??of an authentic and Creole figure like Nicolás Guillén. (Dayessi García Sosa/ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
