Havana, July 22 – The documentary Mijaín, directed by Rolando Almirante, Ángel Alderete, and Héctor Villar, will be presented today at a press conference as part of the official program of the IX Summer Film Festival.
The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Héctor García Mesa hall of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC, for its acronym in Spanish), the main venue for the summer display.
During the presentation, the filmmakers and several of the work's protagonists will reveal details of the filming and editing process, according to a post by the festival's organizing committee on Facebook.
The film retraces Mikhail’s fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal by interspersing archival footage, interviews with coaches and everyday scenes illustrating his discipline and dedication.
Héctor Villar, audiovisual filmmaker and co-writer of the film, told the Cuban News Agency that the production team delved into the athlete's human dimension by capturing his difficult training sessions towards the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 and the complicity with his close circle.
In the process of filming and editing we seek the cohesion between image, rhythm and emotion, to best document the difficult and successful path of Mijaín López to become the only Olympian who won five titles under all five hoops in a single event, he explained.
This preview consolidates the 9th Summer Film Festival as a platform for national cinema, in which Mijaín joins other documentary and fiction proposals that shape the renewal of the Cuban cinematographic scene. (Source: ACN) (Photo: Getty Images)
