We arrive at a new anniversary of July 26, 1953, when the Centennial Generation—led by the young lawyer Fidel Castro Ruz—opened a different libertarian chapter in the oppressed Cuba of the pro-Yankee dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.
The assaults on the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in Bayamo and the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba, in addition to bravery, courage, and dedication to the homeland, marked a path of struggle that culminated in a popular victory on January 1, 1959.
The feat of July 26, sponsored by the poem "We Are Already in Combat," marked the path of the Cuban people, who, 72 years later, continue the struggle to preserve the independence and sovereignty of the nation, constantly threatened and attacked by the United States government, in the face of the commitment "To build the homeland that the immortal Master dreamed of."
The very timely meetings of the X Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the V Ordinary Session of Parliament clearly established the coincidence between the public unveils and the strategic projections of its political leadership and the People’s Power.
The Party's First Secretary, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, made this very clear when he stated that "dissatisfaction with the Government Program to correct distortions and revive the economy, the results of which have not yet been reflected in tangible improvements for citizens, is perhaps the most controversial aspect, which requires continuing this debate at all levels of our society.
What the people expect from us, their main representatives and public servants, are concrete and immediate actions to help overcome the profound economic crisis that is doing so much damage to the spiritual fabric of our nation.
And that is why we remain in the fight because—as has been warned—any strategy for moving forward must take into account that the new US doctrine, which seeks to impose peace by force, is a latent threat to true peace on a global level, which poses, in the particular case of Cuba, a very dangerous scenario."
And the Cuban President warned that "again the Empire is betting on a political and social crisis that will lead to an outbreak during the summer, and for this reason they constantly announce measures and threats on the current difficulties, increasing the undeniable weight these have on the living conditions of the majority of the people, upon whom they are using all means to subvert, confuse, and disorient."
Díaz-Canel's recent point about the need to articulate and promote participatory forms in municipal and community spaces to meet citizens' needs is very accurate.
And municipal management, he specified, must be based on avoiding and preventing problems in the community, leaving behind tolerance and justifications, and designing true and effective popular control, exercising it over compliance with approved public policies and their effective implementation.
There is no doubt about it, we continue in combat, encouraged by the reflection of the ever-present Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz that "the only thing that would never have a perspective is if we lose the homeland, the revolution and socialism. It is as if we had been told that we had no perspective after the attack on Moncada...", said Fidel.
72 years after the clarion call for freedom on July 26, we continue in combat as part of an epic that began in poetry, but that now, with the overwhelming drive of the people, will also end in victory. (Photo: Internet)
